The Seven Sorrows of Mary

Another popular devotion to honor and appease the Tears of Our Lady is to meditate on her Seven Sorrows.

They are Mary's Sorrows:

1. At the Presentation and Simeon's prophecy
2. During the flight into Egypt
3. Having lost Jesus for three days
4. Meeting Jesus on the Via Dolorosa
5. Seeing Jesus crucified and die
6. Seeing Jesus' Sacred Heart pierced
7. Having to bury Jesus

The rosary of Our Lady of Tears may be used to pray the chaplet in honor of Mary's seven sorrows.

Simply meditate on her sorrows, and pray on the beads as you would pray the rosary

The Our Fathers followed by Hail Mary's.

Novena

Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows

Most Holy and Afflicted Mother, Queen of Martyrs,

You stood beneath the cross and witnessed the agony of your dying Son.

Look down with tenderness and pity on me

As I meditate on your sorrows

And place my request in the sanctuary of your wounded heart.

To whom shall I have recourse in my needs and wants if not to you,

Mother of mercy, who drank so deeply of the chalice of your Son?

To whom shall I turn if not to you,

Mother of sorrows, who shared in the sorrows of your Son from birth to death?

The Father who chose you to be the mother of his Son

Allowed the sword of sorrow to pierce you through.

In the immensity of the sorrows you suffered

Help me to persevere and bear patiently with my present sorrow.

If it be for your Son's honour and glory and the good of my soul

Obtain for me from Jesus, your Son, the favour which I now ask of you.
