Novena Prayers
What is a Novena?
What is it?
A novena means 'nine days of public or special prayers for some special occasion or intention.'
The origin goes back to the nine days that the apostles and Mary spent together in prayer between Ascension and Pentecost Sunday. Over the centuries, many novenas have been highly indulgenced by the Church.
To make a novena, means to persevere in prayer asking for a favour over a period of nine days in succession, or nine weeks. It means fulfilling our Lord's teaching that we must continue praying and never lose confidence. This is based on Our Lords words:
"Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall find; knock and the door shall be opened to you". For whoever asks receives; whoever seeks finds; whoever knocks is admitted". ( Luke. 11:9-10 )
Purpose:
The purpose of providing these novenas is not only to provide prayers to obtain favours, but also to encourage you to pray frequently, because prayer, after the Sacraments is the richest source of God's grace. talk to God with all the sincerity that you have in your hearts.
As you grow in daily reflection and prayer, you will find that your relationship with Jesus and Mary develop and grow with much the same ease you would converse with a new friend.
The Church approves of this devotional practice as long as there is no superstitious connection with the number nine(9) and that these are used as a help to prayer.
I have endeavored to present to visitors to this site, some novenas that have proved most powerful. There are many other novenas as powerful, however, here are a few.
